Pharmacogenomics & Precision Medicine
Investigating how genetic variants alter drug targets and metabolizing enzymes, and how structure-based insight can guide individualized prescribing rather than one-size-fits-all therapy.
Structural Bioinformatics · Pharmacogenomics
Pharmacist turned computational researcher. I work at the interface of pharmacogenomics (PGx) and precision medicine, using structure-based methods to understand how individual biology shapes drug response — with a focus on hypertension and rheumatoid arthritis.
About
I hold a BSc in Pharmacy and am currently pursuing a Master's in Structural Bioinformatics at Rhodes University. My training in pharmacy grounds my work in real clinical questions; my current research gives me the computational tools to answer them at the level of molecules and structures.
My core interest is pharmacogenomics — how genetic variation drives differences in drug efficacy and toxicity — and its translation into precision medicine. I am especially motivated to advance research on hypertension and rheumatoid arthritis, two conditions where individualized therapy could meaningfully improve outcomes.
Research Focus
My research lines share a single thread — using structure and genetics to make therapy more individual, more predictable, and more effective.
Investigating how genetic variants alter drug targets and metabolizing enzymes, and how structure-based insight can guide individualized prescribing rather than one-size-fits-all therapy.
Exploring the molecular and genetic determinants of blood-pressure regulation and antihypertensive response, aiming to identify why patients respond so differently to the same medicines.
Studying the structural biology and pharmacogenomics behind RA therapy, with a view toward better predicting treatment response in this complex autoimmune disease.
Technical Skills
A computational toolkit spanning structure prediction, molecular simulation, and reproducible scientific computing.
